Former White House top strategist Stephen Bannon was subpoenaed by special counsel Robert Mueller to testify in front of a grand jury in the course of an investigation into Russian meddling in the 2016 presidential election, The New York Times reported Tuesday. Though Mueller has used subpoenas in the investigation for previous Trump associates, Bannon is the first of the president’s inner circle to have been pulled in. The Times reports that Mueller may be inclined to allow Bannon to avoid the grand-jury appearance in favor of being privately questioned by investigators. Bannon also testified before the House Intelligence Committee on Tuesday.

Dr. Ronny Jackson, the physician who examined President Trump last week, said Tuesday that the president personally requested a cognitive exam and that the results were “normal.” Jackson said he did not feel that such a test was necessary. Additionally, the doctor revealed, Trump is 75 inches tall and weighs 239 pounds. After the publication of Michael Wolff’s Fire and Fury book and Trump’s subsequent tweets calling himself a “very stable genius,” questions have swirled about Trump’s mental capacity and his fitness for the office he holds. “I have absolutely no concerns about his cognitive ability,” Jackson said. “I think he will remain fit for duty for the remainder of this term and for the remainder of the next term if he’s re-elected.”

Corey Lewandowski, the president’s erstwhile campaign manager, has lawyered up. The Daily Beast has learned that Peter Chavkin, of Mintz Levin, is representing Lewandowski for purposes of the Russia investigations. Lewandowski helmed Trump’s campaign until Paul Manafort took over on May 19, 2016. A month later, the campaign announced that Lewandowski was out. There’s significant animosity between the two men. Chavkin has significant experience representing people with messy legal situations. His law-firm bio says he’s represented Ruth Madoff for years, and also represented two investors in the disastrous Fyre Festival. Court documents show he also represented Fortunato Scalamandre, who pleaded guilty in 2001 to making payments to the Lucchese crime family. Lewandowski will testify before the House Intelligence Committee this week. —Betsy Woodruff

Former gymnastics sports doctor and convicted child molester Larry Nassar on Tuesday heard the impact statements of the nearly 100 women and girls who were forced to endure abuse at his hands. Kyle Stephens, the first to speak at the hearing, told the 54-year-old that she wanted the world to “know that you are a repulsive liar.” Stephens said she was repeatedly abused by Nassar from age 6 to age 12. “Perhaps you have figured it out by now, but little girls don’t stay little forever,” she continued. “They grow into strong women that... destroy your world.” The state attorney general’s office has sought a sentence of 40 to 125 years in prison in addition to the 60 years in federal prison he must serve for separate child-pornography crimes.

The death of Dolores O’Riordan, the Cranberries singer who was found dead in a London hotel on Monday, is considered not suspicious by Scotland Yard, officials said Tuesday. Authorities say they filed a report to the coroner’s office, which will now take over the case. The Irish singer had several hits with The Cranberries in the 1990s, including “Linger” and “Zombie.” The band separated in 2003.

Alec Baldwin tweeted a strong defense of filmmaker Woody Allen on Tuesday morning as other actors who have appeared in his movies continue to denounce him for alleged sexual misconduct. “Woody Allen was investigated forensically by two states (NY and CT) and no charges were filed. The renunciation of him and his work, no doubt, has some purpose. But it’s unfair and sad to me,” Baldwin tweeted, adding that the times he has worked with Allen—including To Rome with Love and Blue Jasmine—represent “one of the privileges of my career.” To one follower who agreed with his assessment, Baldwin added, “This is a charge that was investigated aggressively and resulted in...nothing. What would it take for you to at least consider that he is telling the truth?” In recent weeks, actor/director Greta Gerwig expressed regret for working with Allen and the stars of his upcoming film A Rainy Day in New York, Rebecca Hall and Timothée Chalamet, both pledged to donate their salaries to Time’s Up and other charities. Last November, Baldwin received harsh criticism for his controversial comments and tweets about Harvey Weinstein. View this cheat in a browser to see this embedded tweet.

Homeland Security Secretary Kirstjen Nielsen on Tuesday did not dispute that President Trump suggested the U.S. should limit immigration from “shithole countries,” telling the Senate Judiciary Committee under oath that she “did not hear” the president say it. Nielsen was present along with seven lawmakers for a closed-door meeting on immigration policy last Thursday. “The conversation was very impassioned. I don’t dispute that the president was using tough language. Others in the room were also using tough language,” Nielsen said. Sens. Tom Cotton (R-AR) and David Perdue (R-GA) denied that Trump made the remark about non-white immigrants, while Sens. Dick Durbin (D-IL) and Lindsey Graham (R-SC) have backed up the initial reporting on Trump’s comments.

President Trump allegedly chased adult-film star Stormy Daniels around a hotel room in his underwear, friend and fellow adult-film star Alana Evans claimed Tuesday in an appearance on NBC’s Megyn Kelly Today. Evans first told The Daily Beast that she was invited to the hotel room that night to “party” with Trump and Daniels. “‘Come hang out with us. Come have fun. Let’s party,’” Evans told Kelly that Trump said. “If you’re inviting me to a hotel room to hang out with another man and a girlfriend of mine, it’s very easy for you to, you know, believe that there’s going to be more going on than just, you know, playing cards or scrabble.” Evans relayed that when she later asked Daniels how the night went, she’d said, “‘Well, picture this. Donald Trump chasing me around the bedroom in his tighty whities’ isn’t something that you ever forget.’” View this cheat in a browser to see this video.
