Today is Monday. Temperatures will be in the mid-60s to low 70s from north to south with heavy rain throughout the state. Here's what we're talking about in Maine today.

Here's the latest on the coronavirus in Maine
Bar Harbor, known for throngs of tourists, faces a summer without them

  • With far fewer tourists showing up than what the town is used to for this time of year, Bar Harbor just doesn’t quite seem like Bar Harbor.

The Mount Desert Island town, with a population of fewer than 6,000 residents, typically thrives on millions of visitors each year — most from out of state — who throng to the island and Acadia National Park each year between Memorial Day and Columbus Day. But this year, with the coronavirus strangling the global economy and restrictions on people traveling to Maine, only a tiny fraction have shown up.

A famous Maine general store in Owls Head is returning thanks to the pandemic
  • Since she was a child, 26-year-old Maya Newsam has spent her summers escaping to the serenity of this tiny seaside town. So when she lost her job as the bar manager of a nightclub in Salem, Massachusetts, in the wave of coronavirus-related business closures, she figured a couple weeks at her family’s home in Owls Head would do her good.

That two-week escape would completely change her life.

GOP candidates in Maine’s 2nd District praise Trump but still have differences

  • Maine Republicans have about two weeks to choose between three 2nd Congressional District candidates who have spent much of their campaigns praising President Donald Trump but have carved out different areas of interest.

The hopefuls vying to challenge freshman Democratic U.S. Rep. Jared Golden — real estate agent Adrienne Bennett of Bangor, former state Sen. Eric Brakey of Auburn and former state Rep. Dale Crafts of Lisbon — have all built their race around supporting President Donald Trump, often praising him for a strong economy that faltered due to the coronavirus pandemic.

How the 3 Maine Democrats running for US Senate differ on voters’ top priorities
  • Susan Collins’ major-party opponent will be officially decided on July 14, when Gideon faces off with progressive lobbyist Betsy Sweet of Hallowell and Saco lawyer Bre Kidman in a primary to be decided by ranked-choice voting. A February poll showed Gideon to be the prohibitive primary favorite.
Instagram influencer who came to Maine to escape the pandemic now thinking about moving here

  • Katie Sturino, an entrepreneur and a body positive advocate on social media, has been living in Maine with her husband and three Insta-famous dogs since early March when they fled New York City at the onset of the coronavirus pandemic. Though they arrived a month before Gov. Janet Mills issued an executive order restricting out-of-state travelers, their experience highlights the precarious position visitors can find themselves in as they navigate both state policies and social expectations.
Paul Doiron shines in 11th Mike Bowditch mystery, ‘One Last Lie’
  • In “One Last Lie,” Paul Doiron again sends his protagonist, game warden Mike Bowditch, up against some of the most nefarious criminals you’re likely to find in the Maine woods.

With all the canceled fireworks shows, private sales are booming ahead of Fourth of July

  • Ken O’Donnell was shopping at Phantom Fireworks on Saturday figuring that between the frustrations imposed by the coronavirus pandemic work stoppage and his family’s usual requirements, he’ll spend $1,800 on fireworks this Fourth of July. This year, he really wants to blow stuff up.
