WEB-FIRST REVIEWS OF BOOKS AND MEDIA

Winspear's To Die but Once: A Maisie Dobbs Novel Jacqueline Winspear's To Die but Once: A Maisie Dobbs Novel is this week's starred fiction title. "Winspear has created another rich reading experience for Maisie’s many fans, but this title could be seen as entry point for new fans as well. Highly recommended for readers who enjoy a thoughtful mystery." In nonfiction, Ashley D. Farmer's Remaking Black Power: How Black Women Transformed an Era is "an in-depth scholarly analysis of Black Nationalist movements, feminism, and art. Recommended for a scholarly audience." In graphic novels, The Smell of Starving Boys, by Frederik Peeters and Loo Hui Phang, "explores another genre using [Peeters's] signature style, the Western. Set in Texas after the Civil War, it tells the story of an exploratory expedition of three adventurers.... [Suggested] for fans of Peeters’s work (Blue Pills; Aâma; Sandcastle) and unusual graphic novels." And in e-originals, Scarlett Cole's Nikan Rebuilt examines "the reality of how a terrible past can be overcome but not forgotten. Sure to please current fans [of Cole's "Preload" series] as well as create new ones.
