His breakthrough came with the Sonata in C major D 840, known as the "Reliquie", the Sonata in A minor D 845, printed in 1826 entitled "Premiere Grande Sonate" – and as such the first sonata of Schubert that was published – and the Sonata in D major D 850. H. G. Nageli wrote enthusiastically to Czerny a short time later: "I definitely count the piano composer Schubert among the good, even excellent ones".

Psalm 137 "Super flumina Babylonis" also known as "By the rivers of Babylon" was an inspiration for many composers including Camille Saint-Saens. He repeatedly occupied himself with his psalm motet for solo soprano, mixed choir, saxophone quartet, string orchestra and organ, originally composed in 1854. Two of the four versions – the first version in Latin and a much later version in English for alto solo, SATB choir and piano – are now available for the first time in Urtext performing editions taking a meticulous account of all the sources.
Saint-Saens lived up to his reputation as an innovative composer by exploring the use of the saxophone family in sacred music just a few years after the invention of these instruments. | | BA 11471 | EUR 24.95 | 9790006574759 | The powerful intensity of colour and expressiveness of the mosaic images in the apse and altar area of the late antique church of San Vitale (from the 6th century) in Ravenna made a lasting impression on Zsigmond Szathmary. The fascination of how imposing images emerge from tiny, luminous mosaic cubes and vividly tell the biblical stories inspired the composer to write his piano piece: "In my composition, I tried to follow this path: to organise the smallest coloured and angular glass cubes – that is, the smallest coloured and angular musical miniature events – in such a way that they constantly grow and finally culminate in a tangible musical statement."
Despite this seemingly archaic procedure, the composer wants his piece to be understood as a continuation of the virtuoso piano music tradition of the 19th and 20th centuries. The "Mosaikbilder" (Mosaic Pictures) are dedicated to the great Hungarian pianist Zsoltan Kocsis, for whom they were written in 2012. |

It is dedicated to the Austrian flautist Eva Furrer, with whom Beat Furrer works closely and who has been his advisor on flute techniques for decades. The intensive study of the instrument's possibilities is also audible in "melodie". It is a virtuoso piece and demands the full spectrum of playing technique and expression from the flautist.
A variety of special playing techniques poses particular challenges: abstract sounds, changes in air flow, different vocal colorations, extreme registers, and multiphonics. The work is notated in two independent systems, one for articulation and one for fingerings. After a beginning of abstract sounds, the tone pitches become more and more defined. A section of fast, nervous figures is followed by a long, quarter-tone coloured melody, which gave the piece its name and which is heard about halfway through the approximately eight-minute piece. |
