Beethoven, Ludwig van | String Quartet in B-flat major op. 130 | BARENREITER URTEXT Editor: Del Mar, Jonathan | BA 9030 | EUR 19.95 | Parts in slipcover | 9790006566648 | Although Beethoven did not live to see the publication of his String Quartets op. 130 and op. 133, he oversaw the production process, making corrections and putting the works into their final form. The String Quartet op. 130 is the longest piece within Beethoven's extensive chamber music oeuvre. Originally, the Große Fuge was meant to be the final movement of op. 130. Beethoven's conversation books document the separation of the Große Fuge from op. 130, its replacement by a new finale and its assignment to a new opus number op. 133. |

Beethoven, Ludwig van | Grosse Fuge for String Quartet op. 133 | BARENREITER URTEXT Editor: Del Mar, Jonathan | BA 9033 | EUR 11.95 | Parts in slipcover | 9790006566662 | Even by today's standards, the Grosse Fuge is a complicated work and poses a challenge to performers. However it was the first work in music history to include a helpful addition: rehearsal numbers. These were included in the first edition so that during rehearsals musicians could find a common entry without having to start the piece afresh. |

Saint-Saens, Camille | Danse macabre op. 40 | BARENREITER URTEXT Editor: Macdonald, Hugh | BA 8834 | EUR 34.95 | Full score | 9790006567195 | Saint-Saens was a great admirer of the symphonic poems by Franz Liszt. His own symphonic poem "Danse macabre" reflects not only his affinity to medieval superstitions but also constitutes a tribute to Liszt's "Totentanz".
"Danse macabre" is based on the eponymous song Saint-Saens composed in 1872 on a poem by Henri Cazalis. At its premiere, the work was not well-received; in fact it was booed, possibly due to the "diabolic" solo violin playing with the E string tuned down to E-flat, which the audience might have misinterpreted as being out of tune. However within ten years the work had become so popular that Saint-Saens quoted from it in "The Carnival of the Animals". Since the composer's death, "Danse macabre" is among the works most often mentioned in connection with the theatrical face of death found in popular mortuary cult. | BA 8834-77 | Solo Violin | EUR 4.50 | Minimum order quantity: 1 copy |

Telemann, Georg Philipp | Festive Music for Altona | Georg Philipp Telemann. Musikalische Werke 66 Editor: Neubacher, Jurgen | BA 7816-01 | EUR 284.00 | Full score | 9790006560097 | Reduced subscription price available | The volume presents, as a first edition, Telemann's surviving compositions for a number of public occasions in Altona.
