Yesterday was the 80th anniversary of the Canberra air disaster. The story was covered in The Canberra Times' six-page edition on this day in 1940. Ten people, including three federal government ministers and the chief of the Australian General Staff, died when a RAAF Lockheed Hudson bomber crashed near Canberra. The tragedy assumed the proportions of a national disaster in view of the loss of the chief administrator of Australia's war effort.  READ MORE
