The LSU baseball team had troubles in its Saturday loss to Omaha getting home runners in scoring position. Those troubles seemed like a distant memory Monday night against Nicholls State. The No. 2 Tigers struck for seven runs with two outs, big blows in a 13-3 seven-inning victory against the Colonels. It was the last game at Alex Box Stadium before LSU's four-game road trip in Texas, starting with a game Wednesday against Dallas Baptist at the Texas Rangers' Globe Life Field. One of LSU's top relievers probably won't pitch on this road trip, our Koki Riley tells us. Here's the story: ------------------------------ LSU baseball will likely be without one of its top relief pitchers this week in Texas LSU baseball junior right-hander Gavin Guidry likely will be unavailable to pitch in Texas this week, coach Jay Johnson said Monday. Guidry is dealing with a mid-body injury. Johnson expects him to be back next week when the Tigers return from their four-game road trip in the Dallas area. He has yet to appear in a game this season. "Nonthrowing, nonarm related deal that just kind of crept up," Johnson said. "He was prepared to pitch last Wednesday and woke up on Thursday not feeling great. "We think we really pinpointed what it was and anticipate him being ready next week." LSU was supposed to play Wednesday against Nicholls State, but the contest got canceled and pushed back to April 8. Instead of facing the Colonels on Wednesday, LSU hosted them on Monday and won 13-3 in seven innings. The Tigers begin their four-game road trip on Wednesday against Dallas Baptist. First pitch is set for 7 p.m. in Arlington at Globe Life Field, the home of the Texas Rangers. LSU will then play three games over the weekend in Frisco at the Frisco College Baseball Classic against Kansas State, Nebraska and Sam Houston, respectively. ------------------------------ Men's basketball faces another tough challenge at 8 p.m. Tuesday at the PMAC against No. 5 Tennessee on the SEC Network. Meanwhile, the No. 7 LSU women are coming off their big 65-58 win at then No. 14 Kentucky, a win thanks in large part to the versatile play of Mikaylah Williams. The LSU gymnastics team, coming off its win Friday at Kentucky, bounced back to No. 2 in the national rankings (go figure the NQS formula). The Tigers now get ready for the Podium Challenge this Friday at the Raising Cane's River Center against George Washington. Finally the No. 6 LSU softball team is getting ready for its first road trip, putting its 14-0 record on the line in a five-game tournament in Fullerton, California.
