London, 24-26 March: Basic Income – Not Just a Pretty Idea! Our upcoming General Assembly end of this week promises inspirational debates – join us in London or follow it online! Dear friends, These days, when technological progress is bound to radically transform the economic order as we know it, when growing inequalities and injustice are threatening to tear the social fabric apart, and extremist movements as well as populist politicians are misdirecting resentment onto the weakest, there is a strong need for visionary ideas that show us how to heal the wounds and tackle the challenges ahead. More and more people – from interested citizens through economic leaders to political decision makers – realise that universal basic income is such an idea. No wonder it is gaining traction as a hot topic all over Europe. It's time to discuss how we in UBIE can improve our capacity to further these debates and promote policy proposals that bring basic income closer to a reality in Europe. We cordially invite you to our next meeting – which includes our annual general assembly – in London, 24-26 March, with the motto “Basic Income - Not Just a Pretty Idea”. We will discuss key policy issues: How do trade unions relate to the basic income concept? Is there a space for more basic income experiments across Europe? We will also look at UBIE's organisational development: How can we improve our communication and fundraising efforts? How can we strengthen our lobbying activities on EU level and help activists across Europe to promote the debate in their countries? Should we prepare another ECI campaign for 2018/19? Last but not least, we will also elect a new board. Our meetings are open for everyone interested in UBIE's activities, not just members. Click here to see the complete agenda of the weekend. If you plan to attend any of the meetings, please click here to register online. If you can’t be there, follow the meeting online: We’ll post updates in the dedicated Facebook event and on our Twitter channel, where you can also join the discussions. We're looking forward to welcome you to the debate! Unconditionally yours, The UBIE Core Group: Quentin Fabry, Dániel Fehér, Barb Jacobson, Lena Stark & Nicole Teke |
