Pregnant teen accidentally killedOn Saturday night, a pregnant 17-year-old was brought to the hospital with a gunshot wound; East Baton Rouge Sheriff's deputies said she told them the gun went off in her purse. Yesterday, we got the tragic news that she had died from the gunshot, along with her unborn child. And deputies say that, after investigating further, they found that the gun didn't go off in her purse — a man was playing with the pistol in the back seat and accidentally fired it, shooting through the front passenger seat and hitting her in the back.
Worse than it looksWhen LSU fired basketball coach Will Wade after the NCAA dropped a letter alleging he broke a whole bunch of rules, even casual observers knew it didn't look good for the university's athletics program. But things may even be worse than they appear on the surface, columnist Scott Rabalais explains. Meanwhile, here's a profile of Kevin Nickelberry, the interim coach who's temporarily taking over.
Big fights in the legislature?The Louisiana Legislature's regular session starts today, and it could end up being a doozy. Some Republican lawmakers are looking to pick fights with Gov. John Bel Edwards over issues ranging from COVID health orders and vaccine requirements to transgender athletes to what's taught in schools. One issue that could get particularly heated: Some lawmakers want to crack down on insurance companies after the mess left behind after Hurricane Ida.
