When it comes to donations, Baton Rouge mayor's race has a leader

Campaign finance reports provide an early glimpse into how Baton Rouge’s political and business leaders are leaning in the race for mayor-president, as they show former state Rep. Ted James outpacing incumbent Sharon Weston Broome in fundraising.

The two Democrats are the only official candidates in the race. Read more about where the money is falling so far.


The state's top emergency official says Killian's water problems are not serious enough to warrant a state emergency. He did say officials will continue to provide support to help the town get through the problem.

Health officials also have ordered the town to get the system's water well operating again and on a path to lift a boil water advisory.


In Louisiana, swamps have helped shape the state's culture and provide part of its allure to outsiders. But even residents of the Pelican State may not have experienced a close-up look at these vital habitats.
