BY DOUG GRAHAM | Staff writer Church suits: The Society of the Roman Catholic Diocese of Baton Rouge is named as the chief defendant in a pair of recent lawsuits, as the plaintiffs claim the Catholic Church turned a blind eye decades ago when two ex-Baton Rouge priests sexually abused underage parishioners. The suits were filed under the state’s “Lookback Window.” Both plaintiffs seek damages and say the childhood abuse caused them “life-altering” emotional and psychological injuries. Firing line: Baton Rouge Police Chief Thomas Morse Jr. announced Friday that three officers have been fired and a fourth resigned while they face criminal charges for allegedly covering up evidence of one officer beating a detainee during a strip search in 2020. The four have also been criminally indicted on charges of conspiracy to commit obstruction of justice and malfeasance in office. Read more about the firings here.
