Metro Councilman LaMont Cole will head up Baton Rouge schools

 Decision done: After weeks of stalemate, the East Baton Rouge Parish School Board voted unanimously Wednesday night to select Metro Councilman LaMont Cole as the next superintendent of the state’s second largest traditional school district. LEAP scores: On this year's state tests, Louisiana students saw their steady post-pandemic progress screech to a halt. The share of students in grades 3-8 who hit state targets on the 2024 LEAP test was flat in math and science, and grew by just 1 percentage point in English. In high school, the results varied by test — but across all subjects combined, their rate of reaching "mastery" or above was stagnant, too. Read more.
