Baton Rouge schools may replace one of its largest contractors

It wouldn't be a new school year without some hiccups: The Tennessee-based company that has a contract to manage East Baton Rouge Parish school properties could be in danger of being replaced after the school board put off a vote to increase its current deal by nearly $1 million. Fundraiser: Varsity Sports in Baton Rouge is hosting a fundraiser for Zeeland Street owner Stephanie Phares, who was recently diagnosed with lung cancer. 

The local running store, which is located next to the restaurant, will hold a 2 or 4-mile run/walk starting at 5:30 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 29, around the Garden District for Phares, who has dedicated more than 30 years to the community through Zeeland Street cafe. Read more.
