Battle to create St. George not over despite setback in court, backers say

Supporters of creating the new city of St. George have spent nearly a decade trying to build momentum to have it incorporated in the southeast corner of East Baton Rouge Parish, but their efforts have been dealt another blow.

First Circuit Court of Appeals judges unanimously agreed that the petition for St. George "failed to comply" with state law, affirming a Baton Rouge district court's judgment last year that denied the incorporation.

Andrew Murrell, a spokesman for the St. George movement, said the group plans to appeal the decision to the Louisiana Supreme Court. 


A tour of the State Capitol can fill visitors with a plethora of information, such as: 26 types of marble are used throughout the structure, and the chandeliers in Memorial Hall weigh two tons each.

"This building has more questions than it does answers," said Capitol guide Tracy Tullier.
