'Bayou Barbie out'

All-American. National champion. Media star. Trailblazer.

Now, professional basketball player.

The Angel Reese era at LSU is over. Reese on Wednesday revealed her decision to forego a third season with the Tigers (and fifth overall, she played her first two at Maryland).

Reese announced her decision in a couple of ways, including with this video, which ends with the words "Bayou Barbie out."

In my column, I say that in the entire history of LSU basketball, men's or women's, Reese stands alone among its greatest players.

In case you're wondering, there was no announcement from Hailey Van Lith as to what her plans are for next season as her WNBA draft deadline came and went late Wednesday night. She could return, turn pro or even re-enter the transfer portal.

Angel or HVL or no, controvery continues to follow this LSU women's basketball team. Wednesday, Gov. Jeff Landry went on Fox to critique LSU's absence during the national anthem before Monday's regional final against Iowa. He suggests Louisiana college athletes could lose their scholarships if they don't come out for the anthem. I think the governor and LSU's other critics miss the mark and I'll tell you why.

Last note on women's basketball: While LSU came up short of the Final Four, coach Kim Mulkey still pocketed a nice bonus for reaching the Elite Eight. With this latest controversy, though, I'm kind of wondering if it's worth it.

Spring football is still in full swing, and Wilson Alexander tells us how defensive end Paris Shand is using unorthodox techniques to improve his game.

LSU baseball is trying to get back on a winning track this weekend with another super-challenging SEC series against Vanderbilt. Here's how coach Jay Johnson plans to get his team back on track and here's how and when to watch the Tigers and Commodores.

LSU's gymnastics team is just beginning its NCAA odyssey Thursday with its regional semifinal in Fayetteville. Or, it could be the end of the Tigers' season if things go awry. That's the high wire act of postseason gymnastics.

The softball team is still in the thick of its season, what has been a superb season so far. Pitching ace Sydney Berzon is a big reason for that, and our ace correspondent William Weathers has a feature.

Finally, the Augusta National Women's Amateur is under way in, well, Augusta, Georgia. Two LSU golfers are in the field, world No. 1 women's amateur Ingrid Lindblad and Latanna Stone, and LSU recruit Rocio Tejedo. See how they did in Round 1 here.

Thanks as always everyone. You are the Bayou to our Barbie, our contract bonus, our chance to play at legendary Augusta National (nice thought, eh?).

Until next time,

Scott Rabalais
