BBGV NETWORKING DRINKS NIGHT ON 29 OCTOBER 2019 AT THE LE MERIDIEN SAIGON Come along and join BBGV October 2019 networking drinks night with Sophie Hughes’ talk on Vietnamese Women in Arts. The talk will be a journey through Vietnam’s history through the lives and works of it’s artists with a special focus on women, both in front of and behind the easel. It will incorporate artworks, photographs and archival materials to illuminate Vietnam’s fascinating history. With a focus on women, this talk will explore the personal experiences of artists who studied, fought, witnessed and documented major changes in 20th-century Vietnam. By exploring artist’s stories, the timeline of colonialism, war and rapid development will come into focus. Sophie Hughes has worked in the arts in Southeast Asia since 2009; as Director for independent film festival Future Shorts Southeast Asia and as Founder of community film organisation mê phim – passionate about film. Since August 2011 she has worked with renowned researchers, artists, gallerists and curators to create Sophie’s Art Tour (SAT). Prior to moving to Vietnam she worked in Arts Education and Arts Development.
