BCAM´s Matematikhariak initiative recieves the STEAM Euskadi seal

BCAM has obtained the Steam Euskadi seal for its educational initiative, 'Matematikhariak'.

The STEAM Euskadi seal, granted by the Basque Government, recognizes initiatives with a marked STEAM education character, aiming to promote scientific vocations and STEM professional aspirations, as well as to improve students' STEAM skills. This recognition highlights BCAM's commitment to integrating science and mathematics into the educational sphere.

Luz Roncal, Ikerbasque researcher at BCAM, is the new President of the International Relations Commission of the RSME

Luz Roncal has been appointed President of the International Relations Commission of the RSME, where she takes over from Luis Narváez (University of Seville), who has held this position since January 2020.

Relations with international institutions, particularly with Mathematical Societies in other countries, and international action represent a fundamental part of the RSME's activities. Among the objectives to be achieved are to provide greater international visibility of the events organized by the Society and the Spanish Mathematical community in general, and to serve as a meeting point for Spanish mathematicians abroad.

Verónica Álvarez Castro wins the Frances Allen Award from the Spanish Association for Artificial Intelligence for her Doctoral Thesis

Verónica Álvarez Castro, researcher at BCAM, has won the Frances Allen Award of the Spanish Association for Artificial Intelligence (AEPIA) for her doctoral thesis 'Supervised Learning in Time-dependent Environments with Performance Guarantees'. This prize, awarded in the 2024 call, recognizes the excellence and impact of her work in the field of AI.

BCAM has recieved the visit of students from different schools

In April, BCAM has opened its doors to students from various schools in Bizkaia.

BCAM's goal with these visits is to awaken the curiosity of the students and show them that mathematics is present in all aspects of our lives, from nature to technology. The initiative, designed to bring the fascination for mathematics closer to primary and secondary students, has proven to be a success.

BCAM hold the workshop "Bilbao-Bordeaux Workshop on PDEs"

The Basque Centre for Applied Mathematics - BCAM organised the workshop Bilbao- Bordeaux Workshop on PDEs at the centre in Bilbao from 08 to 09 April, in a face-to-face format, in collaboration with the project TRANSMATH, the University of Bordeaux, and BCAM. Around 40 Bilbao-Bordeaux network participants attended the workshop. The workshop aimed to foster interactions and collaborations between the mathematical institute of Bordeaux and the ones in Bilbao (BCAM and UPV-/EHU) and, at the same time, to create a global dynamic involving the mathematical institutes of the Bay of Biscay area.

Luis Vega is incorporated as one of the 11 new academicians of Jakiunde in a plenary session held at the UPNA

Luis Vega, Principal Investigator of the Severo Ochoa accreditation at BCAM - Basque Center for Applied Mathematics and Professor of the Department of Mathematics of the UPV/EHU, is been invested by the Jakiunde, Zientzia, Arte eta Letren Akademia along with 10 more members in different categories, in the spring plenary session that took place in Pamplona.

Verónica Álvarez Castro Participated in the current edition of "Matemáticas en la vida cotidiana" talks in Bidebarrieta Kulturgunea

This cycle focuses on highlighting the versatility of mathematics in various aspects of society, technology, scientific research, and art. BCAM’s postdoctoral researcher talk “¿Pueden las máquinas cambiar de opinión a lo largo del tiempo?” explained how artificial intelligence teaches machines to mimic human behavior and how they must evolve over time.

Under the title “The transformative power of digitalization”, BCAM highlighted its collaboration with Beaz Bizkaia and its advisory service in mathematical modeling; underlining the significant contribution of the research areas of Data Science and Artificial Intelligence and outlining how these disciplines can provide innovative and rigorous solutions to current business challenges.

Santiago Mazuelas participated in the BBVA Foundation´s Leonard Network event at the Teatro Real in Madrid

This event celebrated the first 10 years of the program.
