May 6th, 2020: Eighth Math Colloquium BCAM-UPV/EHU The colloquium will take place on Wednesday, May 6th, at 12:00 pm (online). Our invited speaker will be Benoît Perthame, professor at Pierre-et-Marie Curie University and at the Laboratoire Jacques-Louis Lions. Prof. Perthame is a specialist in kinetic equations and has been a pioneer in the field of mathematical biology. Before his lecture on “Multiphase models of living tissues” we’ve had the chance to interview him and ask him about his scientific career, his research interests and his focus on the application of mathematics to real-life problems.
This is what scientists at BCAM are researching in connection with COVID-19 Several BCAM members in collaboration with Ikerbasque, the University of the Basque Country and health institutions are taking part in a working group on COVID-19 and are focusing their research on real-time prediction of the epidemiological evolution of coronavirus, the estimation of the number of expected hospital admissions and on the improvement, comparison and evaluation of advanced models of prediction of the disease. In this article, they explain the topics related to the coronavirus on which they are currently working.
Celebrating Women in Mathematics on #May12The Committee for Women in Mathematics (IMU) promotes the celebration of May 12 to inspire women everywhere to celebrate their achievements in mathematics. Throughout May we will join this celebration by introducing you to the very talented researchers and students working at our center. Keep an eye on our Twitter account @BCAMBilbao to get to know them a little bit better!
