At the ceremony held at CaixaForum Madrid on Thursday, 5th September, the Basque Center for Applied Mathematics (BCAM) was recognized with its third consecutive accreditation -of which Luis Vega is Principal Investigator-, as a Severo Ochoa Center of Excellence. This award, granted by the National Research Agency, consolidates BCAM as one of the leading scientific institutions in Spain.

On September 27th, BCAM, together with Tecnalia, Euskampus Fundazioa, and University of the Basque Country - UPV/EHU, participated in the European Researchers' Night as part of the ORE4CITIZENS project. Over 60 researchers specializing in marine renewable energies came together in Portugalete’s UPV-EHU Nautika’s building to bring science to the streets through experiments, games, and surprises for all audiences.

A total of 2000 people enjoyed this activity.

From BCAM, Vincenzo Nava, Researcher at BCAM and TECNALIA – Offshore Renewable Energy Group, and Nicolás Gorostidi, PhD Researcher in Mathematical Design, Modelling, and Simulations, led the workshop titled "The Powers of the Wizard Shazam: AI, Music, and Floating Wind Energy."

Guillaume Girier, has a Bachelor’s degree in biology, and a Master's degree in Bioinformatics and Modeling from the Sorbonne University in Paris. His background added to the PhD allowed him to establish multidisciplinary projects based on both the mathematical study of dynamical systems, computations, and experiments on electronic and electrophysiological set-ups. Currently, he has a post-doc position in the team "Complex networks and brain dynamics group" (COBRA, BRADY project) in Prague.

Girier works as a PhD student at the Basque Center for Applied Mathematics (BCAM) in computational neuroscience within the research group "Mathematical, Computational and Experimental Neuroscience" (MCEN). His thesis, titled A mathematical, computational and experimental study of neuronal excitability is under the supervision of Serafim Rodrigues (BCAM & Ikerbasque)

OREgunak brings wind energy to families at Ereaga Beach

Ereaga Beach, in Getxo, became a mini wind farm on Saturday, September 14th, thanks to ORE4CITIZENS, the project led by Tecnalia, BCAM, UPV/EHU, and Euskampus. 32 families, accompanied by researchers and volunteers, were able to build their own wind turbines and better understand the challenges of offshore wind power. This activity is part of the various OREgunak events that the project will organize throughout the year.
