Britain’s king of immersive humiliation has returned to troll American politicians.

Of all the volatile questions searing our public life today, it took Sacha Baron Cohen to think to ask: How many American political leaders are ready and willing to arm the nation’s preschoolers?

The answer: quite a few.

In his new Showtime comedy series Who Is America? — which premiered on Sunday — Cohen, the British comedian, writer and master troll, is back to show just how far astray our political influencers can be led when agreeably encouraged. From former Vice President Dick Cheney signing a waterboarding kit, no questions asked, to ex-congressman Joe Walsh (and many others) emphatically endorsing a faux safety program “Kinder-Guardians” aimed at arming children, Cohen’s antics serve as the shape-shifter’s latest weaponized comedy vehicle. And once again, he has the country talking.

Fernando Kushner gave up everything to tend to the strays of La Paz. But some want him just to let sleeping dogs lie.

Before starting his rounds feeding street dogs in the freezing nighttime temperatures of La Paz, Fernando Kushner slips on a brand-new winter jacket (donated by outdoor brand Totto) in hopes of fending off a relapse of the pneumonia he is just getting over. He grabs his cellphone (donated by Huawei) with its incredibly powerful camera that he uses to shoot pictures for his viral posts about homeless dogs. Then Ferchy, as he is known, takes a couple of buckets filled with fried chicken scraps (donated by two major chicken chains) from the back of the van and sets out to find some of the more than 1,000 dogs he feeds each day. Passing by a storefront of Viva, the local subsidiary of Spanish telecommunications giant Telefónica, he excitedly reports that starting soon, each time a customer makes a transaction on its website they will see the message: “Adopt, don’t buy.”

Like most people, we thought Trump was pulling another publicity stunt. When it became clear that he was going to be the Republican nominee, I warned my husband, Jim, that if Trump won the election I was moving to Costa Rica. We had friends who’d vacationed here and loved it, but we’d never been.

On election night I sat in stunned disbelief, and then the tears came. Just before going to bed to cry myself to sleep, I told Jim once again that I refused to live in a country where Trump was president. I reiterated that I planned on leaving the States. He looked at the tears rolling down my face and promised that he would go with me.
