“This was the first place outside of home where I felt that same way—where I could walk down the side of the road and say ‘hi’ to somebody and they wouldn’t look at me like I was weird for saying ‘hello’,” says West Virginia University junior Sarah Mosinski. Sarah is just one of several students at West Virginia who speak highly about the strong sense of community at the rural campus.

For many others, there’s also the added value of opportunities they didn’t expect to find in the mountains of West Virginia. “I decided to go to college here to pursue my gaming career, and they have an e-sports program,” says sophomore Noah Johnson. “They recruited me to play e-sports here.”

Hear more about Sarah’s and Noah’s stories, as well as about other West Virginia students, in this short film “Country Roads: The Allure of a Rural Campus”.
