Hello again, New Orleans food fans! On Thursday, chef John Besh announced a new restaurant for Spanish Plaza — a sign he's returning to a more public role with his company nearly seven years after a sexual misconduct scandal. We round up four restaurants with Coolinary menus that shine. A popular New Orleans ice cream business is shutting down. With fried chicken sandwiches, queso burgers and cracklin', the well-known local food truck Southerns is opening a brick-and-mortar version on Veterans Memorial Boulevard. The Southern Food and Beverage Museum features New Orleans coffee culture in a new exhibit. And find out why Liz Williams wants you to have a pot of delicious, filling shrimp and corn soup on the stove. 1. Back in the kitchen? John Besh was regarded as the leading chef in New Orleans before sexual harassment complaints rocked his company in 2017 and he stepped down from operating the business. But now Besh is becoming a more visible presence again as the enterprise prepares to launch Delacroix Fish Camp & Bar in Spanish Plaza. 2. Stay Coolinary. There are close to 150 restaurants serving Coolinary menus this year, and that includes many offering the discount summer Coolinary promotion for the first time. Ian McNulty recommends four restaurants for their outstanding Coolinary specials. 3. Wait! There's more. The founders of Southerns food truck have opened their first permanent restaurant location. Rahm Haus, a New Orleans ice cream pop-up, is closing. And if you love New Orleans coffee, you'll love this exhibit at the Southern Food and Beverage Museum. 4. Soup's on! When everyone is running in different directions for school, sports and work, a big pot of soup can be the answer. Corn and shrimp soup is full of vegetables and hearty flavor. Served with bread and a fresh salad, it's a complete meal in a bowl. Here are Liz Williams' recipes. In New Orleans, the food news never stops. Keep up with all the inside info at Where NOLA Eats.
