The Sunday Round-Up | January 3, 2021

Happy New Year! Normally, I would be sending this newsletter from tropical Hawaii, a New Year's tradition my wife and I started about seven years ago ... all thanks to miles and points. I would cash in what I had earned from the previous year so we could welcome the new year in style. Hawaii is my happy place and it's even better after spending Christmas in Toronto, where Natalie is from. Not a bad place to thaw out, eh?

But of course, not this year since we've been playing it safe and being team players by staying home. Instead, we had a quiet (and, I might add, a pretty perfect) Christmas and New Year's at home in Los Angeles.

My wife made chicken parmigiana and I cooked pasta to go with the roasted peppers I had made the day before. What's funny is that I was never into cooking before but 2020 pretty much forced me (and probably countless others) to get into it.

Before my wife and I moved in together (we commuted for the first three years), I never cooked. In fact, in my old apartment where I lived for ten years, I never turned on the stove once! I was rarely home and when I was, I always ate out. Fortunately where I lived, there were plenty of healthy options all around.

One of my favorite restaurants to get Italian food, especially roasted red peppers, is Raffaello Ristorante. Since it’s a long drive from my house and I’ve really been adhering to California’s stay at home orders, I decided to try making them myself. It was super easy and the result was delicious so I took photos and made a short video so you can try it, too. Check it all out here.
