Uh-oh: Utah’s mysterious metal monolith vanishes This year simply won’t quit! Just as people were getting excited over the unusual silver monolith that appeared in an empty part of Utah’s Red Rock desert, the object vanished without a trace. Officials have noted the monolith was installed illegally on federal land, but the Bureau of Land Management emphasizes it had nothing to do with its disappearance. People speculate the artist behind the exhibit is responsible, but, short of an outright UFO sighting, we’ll never really know how the strange silver slab appeared and disappeared so quickly.
