In the Classroom Images and visuals such as photographs, maps, icons, illustrations, and cartoons can be a powerful way to support students' learning and help them make connections to content.
This strategy is part of Colorin Colorado's ELL Strategy Library and can be used to support academic language development for all students. This slideshow features examples of the kinds of images you can use to support ELLs' vocabulary and comprehension. Educators are welcome to incorporate the slides into their professional development resources. Book of the Month Molly of Denali: Little Dog Lost When Anka, Tooey's new sled dog, goes missing, what can Molly and Tooey do to make sure the lost dog finds her way home?
Produced by WGBH Boston, Molly of Denali is a PBS Kids action-adventure comedy series that follows the adventures of feisty and resourceful 10-year-old Molly Mabray, an Alaska Native girl. You can find Molly of Denali on your local PBS station, as well as games, activities, videos, and a related podcast on PBS Kids and PBS Parents.
In addition, the short videos on the Molly of Denali YouTube channel make great classroom resources; we feature one in our Using Multimedia with ELLs strategy and another in our Pre-teaching Content and Vocabulary strategy.
