Study: How gender language affects response to job ads A study in the UK by Openreach found that women were 200% more interested in submitting an application for an engineering job when the job advertisement's language was amended to use different phrases and gender-neutral terms. Eighty percent of the respondents said they initially did not want to work in engineering, but when the job post was rewritten -- and the word "engineer" was replaced with "network coordinator" -- 56% indicated interest in the job. People who lie tend to subconsciously mirror the body movements of those they're talking to, according to findings published in Royal Society Open Science, "[a]nd that could make it an interesting cue for detecting deceit," said researcher Sophie van der Zee. Scientists monitored the body language of study participants who were asked to lie about how they solved a puzzle, noting that the body language of the person telling the lie and the one they were talking to would align.
