BREAKING: Beth Israel–Lahey Merger Gets Mass. AG's Green Light, with Settlement Agreement and FTC Consent

The proposed merger of Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center and Lahey Health System cleared a huge hurdle today when Massachusetts Attorney General Maura Healey announced her conditional approval.

Separately, the Federal Trade Commission announced it has closed its investigation into the proposed transaction, noting that the decision was "a close call."
 
The state's conditional approval came in the form of a settlement filed this morning in the Suffolk County Superior Court.
 
The approval comes with what Healy called an "unprecedented" seven-year price cap that guarantees that the merged health system's price increases will be kept below the state's Health Care Cost Growth benchmark.
 

"These enforceable conditions, combined with rigorous monitoring and public reporting, create the right incentives to keep care in community settings and ensure all our residents can access the high-quality health care they deserve," Healey said. Read the full story.
