I just finished recording Week 6 Beyond the Box Score -- a weekly recap show that I do with Adam and Dan on Mondays -- and now it's time to catch you up on everything that I've learned in the past 24 hours! We're going beyond the box score! |
I can't possibly hope to cover every single question that you might have every Monday, so I created a Google form that you can fill out. You can let me know what topics you'd like to read about, and we'll spend more time discussing them in detail in Friday's newsletter! |
If you want to be part of Friday's newsletter post, feel free to join us in the lab! Fill out this google form, and then check back on Friday! |
Today, we're going beyond the box score. |
Fantasy football risers following Week 6 |
Fantasy riser -- Drake Maye |
The young buck made his debut and finished with a surprisingly decent Fantasy performance! |
If you read last Friday's 'In The Lab' installment, you know that I was extremely bullish on Maye's Fantasy outlook because of his rushing contributions. I was hoping for more designed rushing in Week 6, but five scrambles is exciting. Also exciting was the continued emergence of Demario Douglas as a yardage after the catch accumulator. |
Fantasy riser -- Demario Douglas |
"Pop" Douglas was dope as a rookie, and he's led the Pats in targets in back-to-back games. He's a sneaky viable Fantasy start in an advantageous Week 7 matchup. |
Fantasy riser -- Josh Downs |
Sure, things will change with Anthony Richardson taking over for Joe Flacco. This is a long-term note. Apologies if you're tired of Josh Downs propoganda, but you'll just have to get used to it. He's one of my favorite players! Also, not everyone here is a long-time reader! Some might be here for the first time, and it is my responsibility to put them on game. |
Fantasy riser -- Tee Higgins |
Again, Tee Higgins out-targeted Ja'Marr Chase. Defenses are more focused than ever on slowing Chase down, and we've seen Higgins be the primary beneficiary. |
Joe Burrow has been dealing! |
Fantasy riser -- Drake London |
It is so good to see Drake London's career be rescued. I love Kirk Cousins so much. |
The Falcons are playing fast, throwing a ton, and London is at the center of it all! He looks like a top-eight Fantasy WR who could be the top scorer at the position depending on touchdown conversion efficiency. |
Fantasy riser -- Zay Flowers |
Flowers had a 36% first-read target rate in Week 6, helping elevate him to new career-highs. |
On the year, his per-route data is significantly improved from 2023's rates. There will be games where the Ravens lean on the ground game, and those will likely preclude him from joining the top-20 Fantasy WR conversation. He is flashing that type of ability, though! |
Fantasy riser -- Brian Thomas Jr. |
We saw BTJ lead the Jags in routes run for the first time all season, so he belongs here even if it was an annoying week with the dropped touchdowns and severely underthrown ball on a wide open deep shot. I'll monitor the route totals going forward and let y'all know how it evolves. BTJ has insane per-route data, so an increase in route rate is notable. |
Fantasy riser -- Tank Dell |
Ayyo, another big W for 'In The Lab' readers! |
Fantasy riser -- Christian Watson and Romeo Doubs |
Only Brock Purdy has produced more catchable air yards per game than Jordan Love in 2024. I just created a thread with some really interesting info on catchable targets, if you are curious about that! |
With Dontayvion Wicks banged-up, Watson played nearly every snap on offense. He and Doubs both found the end zone and looked good out there! This offense is red-hot, and Jordan Love looks like one of the best passers in the game! |
Fantasy riser -- Chase Brown |
Brown has been awesome as a rusher, and now the Bengals are getting him more involved as a receiver! He still barely has had any pass-blocking opportunities, so we're probably not nearing a full-time role. It's clear that Brown's Fantasy value is on the rise, though! |
Fantasy riser -- Tyrone Tracy Jr. |
There wasn't much running room out there, but Tracy still managed to pile up 100+ scrimmage yards again. And most importantly, he was trusted as the passing downs option. |
You can watch all of Tracy's scrimmage yardage pile up here. |
Fantasy riser -- Bucky Irving |
Irving sure feels like the Tampa Bay back that we want for Fantasy. I have no idea what might happen with Rachaad White and Sean Tucker going forward, but Irving feels very likely to remain heavily involved. He's been so good. And when the Week 6 game was competitive, Irving was the RB that Tampa had on the field. |
Even before White's injury, Irving had taken over as the preferred rushing option. He had started commanding all of the short-yardage situation. I'm not so sure that he's going to stop there. Irving was a highly productive pass-catcher at Oregon. He may be coming for the passing downs as well. He could be a three-down back to close out the season. I'm so excited about Irving's long-term Fantasy outlook. |
Like Josh Downs, you'll simply have to allow me to rant and rave about Irving. He's one of my favorite players to watch already as a rookie. |
Alright, I'm outta here. If you haven't listened to the podcast version of Beyond the Box Score, it's good stuff! |
If you have any feedback on the newsletter, feel free to send them my way. Thank you for reading! And please, do check out Beyond the Boxscore on FFT! Dan and I put a lot of work into that podcast project and aim to make it fun and accessible for any level of NFL fan! |
