Good afternoon! It's Wednesday, March 2, and today's headlines include a review of President Joe Biden's State of the Union speech, new research on younger Americans' financial struggles, and a preacher's inspiring "American Idol" audition.
President Joe Biden on Tuesday night used his first State of the Union Address since taking office in 2021 to address several hotly-debated issues. Maintaining that numerous rights were "under assault," he lamented that “the constitutional right affirmed by Roe v. Wade, standing precedent for half a century, is under attack as never before.” Biden also used his time at the podium to express pro-trans sentiments and speak against recent measures designed to prevent biological males who identify as females from competing in women's sports in light of concerns that the biological differences between men and women give biological males a competitive advantage over their female counterparts. Referring to such measures as "simply wrong," he stated, "I’ll always have your back as your president so you can be yourself and reach your God-given potential.” Continue reading.

The UMC's upcoming meeting, which was previously postponed due to the pandemic, will consider measures aimed at ending its debate over whether to consider homosexuality a sin and to ban the blessing of same-sex unions. The church said in a statement to The Christian Post that it is planning to join the Free Methodist Church because it "is a better fit for our present identity and future fruitfulness.”

"'All I ask is room to breathe.' It wasn’t merely a lone individual speaking those words on that day in 1993. It seemed to be a whole nation voicing the cry as we drove from Boryspil International Airport toward newly freed Kyiv," Wallace b. Henley writes. In this column, Henley details his time as part of a team sent to teach at an evangelical seminary that came into existence throughout the former Soviet Union after the collapse of Communism. "My assignment," he explains, "was to teach a course on ethics, a topic that had been swept away in the era dominated by atheistic Marxism." Continue reading.

It’s easy to say you’re going to make an effort to buy American products and support American companies. In practice, that policy isn’t always so easy to carry out, even if you’re paying attention and doing your due diligence to make that happen.
Case in point: purchasing meat. When you hit the grocery store meat section, you’ll usually find many cuts hailing from countries like New Zealand and Uruguay. When you finally do spot a U.S. Dept. of Agriculture sticker on a choice filet or rack of ribs, you might think your search is over. However, that patriotic sticker doesn’t tell the whole story.
