Biden’s Actions on School Reopenings, China Moves to Join the CPTPP, and More

With COVID-19 posing a greater threat to children than before, President Biden seems determined to use a wide range of executive power and administrative tools to support schools and districts in fighting the pandemic. Kenneth Wong explains the actions that the Biden administration has taken so far to protect students and staff.

Earlier this month, China formally submitted a request to accede to the Comprehensive and Progressive Trans-Pacific Partnership (CPTPP) trade agreement. Though there is no guarantee that China will actually end up in the agreement, Mireya Solís argues that it was a good move for China anyway.

“The amazing technology of the new glasses is a classic example of how digital entrepreneurs think. The question ‘can we build it?’ supersedes asking, ‘what are the consequences if we build it and how can they be mitigated?’ Facebook appears to have anticipated the need to address the privacy issue as a part of its product rollout, but the issues raised call for more than public relations,” writes Tom Wheeler.
