Dear Friend,
Welcome back to my Week in Review newsletter. In addition to these weekly updates, you can sign up to receive other issue-specific newsletters here. Also, please remember to follow me on Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, and YouTube for regular updates on how I am serving the people of South Carolina!
Big News This Week!
I am excited to announce that I will be delivering the Official Republican Response following President Biden’s address to Congress on Wednesday evening. I am honored to represent South Carolina on the national stage. We face challenges on multiple fronts, but I am as confident as I have ever been in the promise and potential of America.
I look forward to sharing Republicans’ vision for expanding opportunity and empowering working families across the nation. Be sure to tune in!
Increasing Financial Literacy
As a kid growing up in poverty, I thought success was out of my reach—I started flunking classes and almost gave up. But a local Chick-Fil-A owner, a man named John Moniz, took me under his wing and taught me about conservative business principles and how to invest responsibly. Financial literacy put my life on a different path, and I believe it has the power to do the same for folks in South Carolina and across the nation.
Last Wednesday, I introduced a resolution declaring April as Financial Literacy Month, along with my Financial Literacy Caucus co-chair, Senator Reed (D-RI). When individuals and families are empowered to make wise financial decisions, our economy is stronger and our future more secure. I will continue advocating for legislation to make that happen. Read more about the resolution and my work on financial literacy here.
COVID-19 Funeral Assistance
In recent weeks, my office has received a number of calls about funeral assistance. There is never a good time for a loved one to pass, particularly in the midst of a pandemic when economic hardships have grown for so many. I am pleased that the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) began processing funeral assistance applications last week to ease this burden. If you have lost someone to COVID-19, I hope and pray you are able to celebrate and honor their life with family and friends. For assistance in doing so, please visit FEMA’s website or call their support line at 844-684-6333.
Sincerely,
