Details emerging on new City of St. George

BY VICKI FERSTEL | Staff writer

As East Baton Rouge's fifth municipality, the City of St. George, starts to take shape, there remain plenty of questions. Some of those will be addressed at a press conference today by the St. George Transition District.

The press conference is scheduled at 10:30 a.m. at the St. George Fire Department headquarters, Training Room B, at 14100 Airline Highway, Baton Rouge.

Advocate staff writers Lara Nicholson and Charles Lussier took an initial analysis of the next steps.

Violence rocked East Baton Rouge this weekend: Three people died and four others were injured in a string of shootings. Staff writer Gabby Jimenez has the overview.

Meanwhile in Kenner, three police officers were among the five people injured in a five-hour standoff Sunday that ended when a Jefferson Parish Sheriff's sniper shot and killed the suspect.

He got hit by a "tank" and lived to tell the tale. Yes, we're talking about LSU baseball. Staff writer Koki Riley has the story of the fan who got beaned by Tommy White's three-run home run in the eighth inning of Tuesday's game between LSU and Nicholls State.

Alas, LSU wasn't so lucky on Sunday. Auburn won the series finale 7-5 at Alex Box Stadium. Riley has that story, too.
