Come Jan. 1, 2025, state sales taxes will be going up to as high as 10 percent in some areas while state income taxes will be coming down, topping off at 5 percent. Staff writer Alyse Pfeil explains that the trade-off is part of a complicated deal orchestrated by Gov. Jeff Landry and state lawmakers. The operation concluded the Friday before Thanksgiving. The LSU women’s basketball team ran North Carolina Central off the Pete Maravich Assembly Center floor on Sunday, winning 131-44 for its 100th victory under coach Kim Mulkey. Staff writer Reed Darcey notes that LSU now has two wins of at least 80 points since at least 2002, according to Stathead, and it's earned each of them in just the past two seasons. Baton Rouge-area nonprofits are partnering with The Advocate and Georges Media to create a one-stop shop of giving called Red Stick Rally set for Dec. 3, Giving Tuesday.
