NEWSLETTER - NOV 2021

It’s probably no surprise to hear that it has been a difficult time for the arts and culture sector in Australia, and the it’s been no different for Desert Pea Media.  Border closures and focus on vaccinations and community safety have resulted in some major changes and postponements for our project programming in regional and remote communities.

Despite the challenges of a COVID-19 reality, DPM has made the most of an opportunity to focus on organisational development, and we have some exciting announcements and opportunities to share with our supporters this month
www.desertpeamedia.com

Desert Pea Media has seen some major organisational change and maturity over the past two years.  The DPM Management Team has been working hard on integrating the recommendations of our first Independent Evaluation of our work and impact in Original Nations communities.

We’ve developed a new Cultural Framework, which explores our cultural identity as an organisation.  Our new website celebrates the experiences and learnings of our team over the past two decades learning from and collaborating with Original Nations people around the country.

The website represents a new direction. Exploring the origins of our identity as a cross-cultural organisation, sharing feedback and stories from participants and communities, and exploring the DPM process in a clear and inspiring way. It’s a new way to tell the yarn.

We hope you enjoy the new portal to Desert Pea Media’s work. Please share it around with your networks and help spread the message.

There has never been a more valuable time to support the work of NFP’s and charity organisations in Australia.  Our new website offers a new, and exciting way for the DPM fam to contribute to our work with Original Nations young people in an authentic and impactful way.

‘DPM Connect’ is a new network for supporters and collaborators to directly uplift Desert Pea Media’s work.

For Individuals:  A monthly donation campaign is a new opportunity to become part of the DPM Connect network, and receive exclusive updates, PR and marketing resources, and exclusive pre-release screenings of our media and music outcomes.

For Businesses: A one-off or monthly donation campaign is a new opportunity to become part of the DPM Connect network, and receive exclusive updates, PR and marketing resources, and exclusive pre-release screenings of our media and music outcomes.

This is a new way to connect directly with DPM and support the projects in communities we work with.

All donations are 100% tax deductible and go directly to creating opportunities for Original Nations young people to connect with community, culture, country, and creativity.

We are excited to announce the release of a new independent evaluation film.  This production sits next to an Independent Evaluation Report, commissioned as part of a major partnership in 2020/21 with Healthy North Coast (aka North Coast Primary Health Network).

The Evaluation – authored by researcher Natalie Moxham of Leanganook Yarn, measured the impact of Desert Pea Media’s work in five communities in North Coast NSW.  We wanted to know – does DPM’s community process work?  Does it offer any real solutions to closing the gap for Original Nations young people? What can be improved?

The evidence is clear, and the Healthy North Coast x DPM Evaluation film is a strong exploration of the outcomes of this Evaluation Report.  It has triggered an exciting internal reflection process, and some changes in our organisational direction and approach to DPM community programming into the future.

Read about the evaluation process and see the film HERE.
We’re excited to officially unveil Desert Pea Media’s 2021 organisational logo.  We’ve kept the best parts of the original design and moved towards more neutral, ochre tones to better represent our organisational identity.

We’re so excited about the next chapter!
