The Lunch Line: Big paychecks after Hurricane Ida. And the COVID Christmas dilemma

By Bob Warren

Big checks: Hurricane Ida left much of Kenner in tatters. Everyone knew a massive recovery effort was ahead. But some newly released payroll records from the city of Kenner show some city employees recorded some very long days and brought home some hefty post-storm paychecks.

Detail details: At the New Orleans Police Department, meanwhile, several officers have agreed to short suspensions after questions surfaced about their off-duty security details.

COVID Christmas dilemma: Got a group coming over for dinner or a party? You've probably asked this question: Who’s vaccinated? And maybe this one: What if they’re not? Sara Pagones talked with some people jumping through those COVID holiday hoops.

Saints news: Speaking of COVID, it's wreaking havoc on the Saints roster. Some good news? Looks Sean Payton will be back Monday night. Bad news? A few coaches and another player have gone on the COVID list.

Santa and his sidekick: Speaking of holidays, here’s a couple stories you might enjoy. After COVID shut down almost everything last year, Santas are making a comeback, albeit in a more limited capacity.

And folks of a certain, uh, vintage, will surely remember Mr. Bingle, the holiday icon for the Maison Blanche department stores. Here's a story from a few years ago.

Hope you enjoyed the Lunch Line. Thanks for taking a break with us today.
