| | Question of the Week This week, we noted that a Nebraska lawyer was suspended over the nonspecific nature of his replies to his client's messages sent via Facebook. Some readers' comments to this story on Facebook were surprised the lawyer was communicating with a client on Facebook at all, while others point out that for better or worse, it's often clients starting these social media exchanges with their counsels--this is how they want to communicate. So this week, we'd like to ask you: Do you communicate with clients on social media? If you object to it, how do you handle clients who send you social media messages? Do you communicate with potential clients via a law firm account on Facebook, LinkedIn or Twitter and then take client communications to another platform? Answer in the comments. Read the answers to last week's question: How do you guard your personal data? Featured answer: Posted by aliaslawyer: "I do my work via VPN, use duckduckgo as my search engine ... but have "embraced" tracking the same way I 'embraced' tracking back when they did it with magazine subscriptions--for every search I do, I try to search for something unrelated that I am absolutely not interested in. (We all have downtime on hold, etc. for that!)" |
