Liebe Weinfreunde, unsere heutige Weinreise führt uns in eine der großen, klassischen Rotweinregionen Italiens: die Toskana. Mauro Galardi ist kein Mann großer Worte, sondern ein Mann der Tat. Bei einem Gespräch sagte er uns kürzlich, dass selbst wenn er den besten Wein der Welt herstellen würde, es doch jemanden bedürfte, den Wein entsprechend zu vermarkten. Er selbst fühlt sich zwischen seinen Reben und Olivenbäumen am wohlsten. Daher ist er sehr froh, dass demnächst seine Tochter, die vor kurzem ihr Weinbaustudium abgeschlossen hat und derzeit gerade bei namhaften Weingütern im Ausland weitere Erfahrung sammelt, in den elterlichen Betrieb einsteigen wird. Im Jahre 1935 gründeten die Brüder Carlo und Alberto Galardi die Fattoria di Poggiopiano in den Bergen oberhalb von Florenz in Fiesole-Girona, nur knapp 7 km vom Zentrum der Medici-Stadt entfernt und begannen mit dem Anbau von Wein und hochwertigem Olivenöl. Nachdem der Jahrhundertwinter von 1985, der durch seine extremen Minustemperaturen den Großteil der toskanischen Reblandschaft buchstäblich auf Eis legte, war es schließlich am jungen Mauro Galardi, das Erbe seiner Vorfahren fortzuführen. Er beschloß, die durch die Kälte größtenteils zerstörten Reben und Olivenbäume völlig neu anzupflanzen und den Betrieb konsequent naturnah und Bio-Zertifiziert auszurichten. Seitdem ist Galardi so etwas wie ein unermüdlicher Forscher, der stets nach neuen Wegen sucht, seine Produkte zu verbessern. Wir haben seine Weine längst ins Herz geschlossen und seine Olivenöle zählen zweifelsohne zu den besten ganz Italiens. Mauro Galardi ist der Überzeugung, dass guter Wein aus sich selbst heraus entstehen muss. Der Mensch darf nichts zuführen oder im Weinberg Chemie verwenden. Er muss vielmehr Wegbereiter sein und der Natur optimale Bedingungen bieten. Ein Gang durch Galardis sorgsam gepflegte Weinberge verdeutlicht sein sichtbares Streben nach Qualität und nicht nach maximalem Ertrag.
