For much of his eight-year tenure as Louisiana attorney general, Republican Jeff Landry railed against Democratic leaders in New Orleans, blaming them for the city’s crime rate. Now, however, the governor-elect has announced an unlikely collaboration with District Attorney Jason Williams, a progressive Democrat and political foe. Site work started Wednesday on the $1 billion River District neighborhood in New Orleans, as the developers of the mixed-use project pressed their case for public subsidies to bring it to fruition. The drama surrounding the LSU women’s basketball team stirred again Wednesday with announcements that one missing player will return, another is not with the team and a third will miss the rest of the season.
