Bitcoin Mining Is Proving To Be A Lifeline For Africa’s Oldest National Park

Virunga National Park in the Democratic Republic of Congo, Africa's oldest protected space, is using bitcoin mining to monetize its abundant natural resources and preserve its existence in the face of militia attacks and the COVID-19 pandemic.

These attacks and the pandemic have had a major impact on the revenue of the park, leaving it in a financially precarious situation. 

With the help of an experienced bitcoin miner, the park has set up 10 containers powered by hydro plants, each containing 250 to 500 rigs, and has hired nine full-time workers to staff the facility.

Michael Saylor has commented on the project, praising Bitcoin as the ideal high-tech industry for the nation.
