Rabbit Hole Read Of The Week

This week's Rabbit Hole Read is cypherpunk Tim May's "A Cypherpunk's Manifesto" which was written in March 1993, but speaks volumes in 2019. May, who passed away in late 2018, was part of a movement which began long before the internet became popular and ultimately resulted in the era of Bitcoin. May and the cypherpunks saw the need for privacy in the digital world, a concept that he emphasized in his opening statement: "Privacy is necessary for an open society in the electronic age. Privacy is not secrecy. A private matter is something one doesn't want the whole world to know, but a secret matter is something one doesn't want anybody to know. Privacy is the power to selectively reveal oneself to the world."
