As a graduate of Boston University with a degree in manufacturing engineering, Bithia jumped into the growing tech industry in the Silicon Valley. Needing a creative outlet after the birth of her second child, she ventured into ceramics, and almost two decades later, Bithia found herself teaching art to secondary students and developing a fine art curriculum. While working across media with her students, she was increasingly eager to develop her own skill, and she centered her efforts in the disciplines of acrylic/oil, watercolor, and soft pastel. Soft pastel quickly became the vehicle for her voice as an artist, and though still a somewhat recent arrival to the full time art scene, she has dedicated herself to refining her craft in that medium. Her growing body of work shows the distinction of her interests--painting food, wine, books, and whatever else strikes her fancy, which is often lit by her passions and a rich appreciation for the Pacific Northwest, where she now resides. Her life there as an artist also revolves around her husband, two adult children, and four cats. If she isn't painting in her studio, she's playing with "mud" in her second studio, as she crafts pottery. When drawn out of her studios, Bithia can be found either hiking, cooking, baking, reading, or tasting some fabulous wine. A perfect day might be a combination of any of those! ARTIST STATEMENT There is often a point during a splendid meal that one can sit back and think, "That was perfect." Whether it be a five-course meal or a simple family dinner, a gratifying aura of satisfaction infuses your soul. I try to capture that moment - delightful, refreshing, and pleasurable. It may come at the tail end of a wine tasting or at the sight of a delectable cake ready to share. My goal is to share that twinkle in time that makes us pause, reflect, and enjoy the simple pleasures. "We do not remember days, we remember moments." - Cesare Pavese Pastels are immensely satisfying for their intense and immediate color, the complexity of depth, and the challenge of mastery. I love working without the intermediary relationship of tools; the tactile connection between hand and pastel is immediate and sensory. My work is described as a fresh take on contemporary realism with astounding detail and color. As I continue to refine my artistic voice and push myself to experiment and learn more about my medium, I relish the opportunity to challenge myself and create beauty and inspire joy. Every moment is an experience to savor. Learn More About Bithia Bjurman Creating Art is about Creating Magic. New Artwork by FASO Members Your art could be here tomorrow, for free.
