Black activist wards off protesters so women can access Mississippi's sole abortion clinic

Asia Brown, 20, is a Black volunteer patient escort at Mississippi’s last abortion clinic, where she shields mostly Black patients from overwhelmingly white anti-abortion protesters shouting slogans and bearing graphic signs outside the facility.

Last month, the Supreme Court agreed to hear a case that would consider the legality of Mississippi’s ban on most abortions after 15 weeks. If the ban is upheld, it would fall most heavily on women of color in the state.
