Hi, Blitzscaling is a set of practices for igniting rapid growth in order to accelerate to the stage in a startup's life cycle where the most value is created. It prioritizes speed over efficiency in an environment of uncertainty, and blitzscaling allows a company to go from “startup” to “scaleup” at a furious pace that captures the market. At Code Conference 2019, we had a packed room for the Blitzscaling Power Breakfast with Greylock investor and LinkedIn co-founder Reid Hoffman. For those of you who couldn’t make it, we wanted to share some highlights and key takeaways from the discussion. To hear the full Blitzscaling session, subscribe to the Greymatter podcast. Here are some of the highlights: When considering whether or not your company can successfully blitzscale, ensure that you have enough product-market fit to give you a competitive edge. “Essentially, if you pour in jet fuel, make sure that you’re taking off and not hitting a mountain.” - Reid Hoffman Blitzscaling can apply across sectors, including consumer software, enterprise software, or health care. “Being the first to scale is what really matters. Not first mover — first to scale. And so you figure out what is the set of things that you can do to move very fast and become that first to scale. Blitzscaling is about competitive speed... It's a relative speed to your competitors, but also it's about how much you're putting on the gas." - Reid Hoffman Because blitzscaling requires you to move so fast, you need to set good company culture as early as possible. It is very difficult to fix later. “When hiring, don’t consider if a person is the right culture fit. Instead ask if this hire will make our culture better." - Reid Hoffman As sponsors of the inaugural Rising Stars program, Greylock Partners supports CEOs and founders who are building the next generation of enduring technology companies.
