On October 13, 1924, 3LO burst onto the airwaves for the first time with a live broadcast of Dame Nellie Melba performing La Boheme at Her Majesty’s Theatre.
Since that time, 774 ABC Radio Melbourne has been there through wartime, fire, flood, sporting achievements and incredible human triumphs.
It takes a small but dedicated army to put 774 ABC Radio Melbourne to air each day.
And it is all for you.
You are the one who we have in mind each day when we are planning our radio shows. It is you who we want to be entertained, enthralled, informed and comforted. It is your stories that we want to share. And it is you who brings those golden moments when you call our talkback line.
This celebration of 100 years is as much a celebration for you as it is for us.
If you were lucky enough to get a ticket and carve out some time in your day today to join us at our 100th birthday celebration, we can’t wait to see you.
If you can’t make it, please tune in live from 12.30pm here.
Thank you for 100 years of support. And that you for loving our station just as much as we do.
Happy 100th Birthday.
