Good afternoon,

For those of you, like me, who were awoken this morning by freezing sleet and snow battering the window, I think you'll agree today is a great day to stay inside.
But for those who had to venture out, it's been a difficult morning on the road and rail with delays on the M6, M61 and M62 plus problems with Northern services.
I hope everyone got where they were going safely. An amber warning for snow and ice remains.
Meanwhile there has been very sad news in Clayton Brook after the body of a man was found. This is  a developing story and you can catch up with the latest via the website.
And we have been reporting the latest worrying news that a case of the new South African variant of Covid has been discovered in the North West, more specifically the Southport area.
The person involved has not travelled and work is ongoing to contain this, as part of a scattering of cases across the country.
All of this latest, breaking, news can be found via the live blog.
I hope you have a peaceful Tuesday. Kind regards, Nicola
