Where NOLA Eats

Greetings, New Orleans food fans! This week, Ian McNulty made an appearance on opening night of the Bon Ton, and discovered the old restaurant has a modern new focus. A lounge next door to Gautreau's will fill a need as it fills some glasses. NOCHI offers a student pop-up, but only through mid-December, and a Texas-based bagel shop arrives near Tulane University. Vote for your favorite pizza in round 2 of our readers' poll. Finally, Thanksgiving sides are the main event for Lauren Cheramie: Try her butternut squash souffle and toasted mushroom cups.

1. A revamped Bon Ton.

The new Bon Ton Prime Rib tells you what it is in its name: It is a prime rib house. There are steaks and Cajun-style seafood, but without an ounce of doubt, the concept centers on the prime rib.

2. Upscale, Uptown

Gautreau’s Restaurant will soon open a new lounge right next door, sharing an expanded kitchen and bringing an upscale night spot to the neighborhood. The bar will fill a need for Gautreau's, which has only a service bar.

3. Wait! There's more.

The pop-up restaurant Baiyū is the latest edition of a twice-yearly student-staffed project at the New Orleans Culinary & Hospitality Institute, or NOCHI, but it's only around until Dec. 13. Shug's Bagels from Texas are coming to the Tulane University neighborhood. And we're asking our readers to vote for their favorite pizza for our latest readers' food poll.

4. Side hustle.

What would Thanksgiving be without the sides? Here's Lauren Cheramie with recipes for butternut squash souffle and toasted mushroom cups to elevate your side-dish game.

In New Orleans, the food news never stops. Keep up with all the inside info at Where NOLA Eats.
