Boogie Board turns 50: Do you remember your first ride?
By Heather McRea
This week in Coast Lines: It was 50 years ago when an extra piece of foam and a newspaper in the hands of a Southern California inventor marked the birth of the Boogie Board.

Plus, boaters who rent slips in Dana Point Harbor recently learned of a rate increase, and after decades of talking and planning, construction on a redeveloped Wilmington waterfront is on track.

It has taken decades to get to this stage, but the $71 million “window on the waterfront” project is starting to show its progress

In the ocean

When the whale is as big as a boat, why wouldn’t dolphins “bow ride” as it cruised along. While a cool sight, it was the whale itself that recently caught the eye of whale-watching boat captains. The big blue whale is a hopeful sign.
