Webinar | The Psychology of Thanking Donors Well

Thursday, February 27, 2025
2:00 - 3:15 PM ET

The countdown is on! Join us tomorrow for a must-attend webinar on crafting donor thank-yous that drive retention and increase giving.

Every gift represents a donor’s belief in your mission. And a meaningful thank-you ensures they see the impact of their generosity — and inspires them to keep giving.

In this session, you’ll learn from two leading experts who have helped organizations like yours turn donor appreciation into increased retention and fundraising success.

MEET YOUR SPEAKERS:
  • Jen Shang, Co-Founder and Director, Institute for Sustainable Philanthropy
A philanthropic psychologist with a Ph.D. in philanthropy, Jen Shang trains nonprofit professionals around the world on donor psychology at the Institute for Sustainable Philanthropy. Shang has published articles in several academic journals, including Organizational Behavior and Human Decision Processes, and Nonprofit Management and Leadership. Her research has been funded by the Association of Fundraising Professionals, Aspen Institute, Corporation for Public Broadcasting, and Hewlett Foundation, among others.

  • Lisa Sargent, Principal, Lisa Sargent Communications
Lisa Sargent is an author, fundraising copywriter, nonprofit educator, and story strategist who urges charities to transform how they communicate with donors. She wrote Thankology, a book on how to improve donor retention through gratitude, and co-authored Change for Better, a guide on using decision science in fundraising. Her free donor thank-you clinics were named one of the world’s “top 10 gifts for fundraisers” by the Showcase of Fundraising Innovation and Inspiration, an online archive of fundraising resources, where they remain one of the site’s most visited exhibits. Sargent has worked with clients including Best Friends Animal Society, St. Helena Hospital Foundation, Shriners Hospitals for Children, Animals Asia, Northwestern Memorial Foundation, and several charities in Ireland.
Together, they’ll offer practical strategies for steering clear of transactional messaging and using language that builds connection.
