Dry July starts today! Sign up now and help create a better life for people affected by bowel cancer.

Bowel Cancer Australia’s 2024 Dry July team will be raising funds to deliver practical, tangible support services for bowel cancer patients, their families and carers.

Invaluable services like Bowel Cancer Australia’s specialist Bowel Care Nurse program, enabling more patients to receive dedicated support from a local in-person Bowel Care Nurse.

Thanks to the support of more than 700 fundraisers (and counting), Dry July 2024 has already raised over $100,000 for Bowel Cancer Australia. What an amazing effort - thank you all!

"Unfortunately, I have some bad news…we found cancer'…. is something no one wants to hear, let alone when you’re 38 years old, have had minimal symptoms, run multiples times per week, keep fit and healthy, eat a balanced diet, don’t smoke, rarely drink and have three young boys, a wife and many loving family and friends.

It is so important to talk about family history as this can have a flow on effect, seeing your GP for any symptoms (no matter how silly you think it is) and acting on your gut instinct if something doesn’t feel right. You are never too young!!!

As a Nurse, a wife and mum of three young boys I am raising money for Bowel Cancer Australia through Dry July, helping to fund more Bowel Care Nurses across Australia to help support the many families affected each year and undergoing treatment.”

FUNDRAISE TO SUPPORT PATIENTS LIKE CHRIS

"In 2022, my mum (Emer) was diagnosed with Stage 4 bowel cancer. Throughout the journey, she was incredibly brave and resilient. She listened to every bit of advice and guidance given to her by doctors, she adjusted to every change in diet and exercise without complaint, and she never let her diagnosis take away from her happy and loving attitude day to day.

While mum's fight with bowel cancer has ended, we want to pick up the sword and carry on. Bowel cancer is a horrid disease that robs families of time and future memories together.

This Dry July, my partner Dannielle and I will once again be giving up the booze to help raise both awareness and money for Bowel Cancer Australia. Our hope is we raise enough money to help another family save their own while also remembering Mum."

"Six years ago, our families' lives changed forever when we lost our dad to cancer.

My three brothers and I were advised to complete regular checks, starting 10-years prior to our dad’s initial diagnosis. For me, turning 34 this year really hits home. The idea of ‘not knowing’ always seemed to be the best route. However, I’m committed to practice what I preach and ‘check my poo’ this year.

My fiancé and I are getting married, and if there had have been more awareness around bowel cancer, maybe, just maybe my Dad would be here to walk me down the aisle on my wedding day."

RAISE FUNDS FOR PEOPLE AFFECTED BY BOWEL CANCER

"Bowel cancer is something so close to my heart and has had a massive impact on my family.

My dad was diagnosed with bowel cancer in 2018. He overcame the cancer and we are so thankful it was detected early enough.

Earlier this year however we lost my grandad from cancer which started as bowel cancer and it wasn’t until it was spread through his body that it was detected. If it was diagnosed early enough, he could still be here."
