Normal publishers use a distributor to sell their books. We used Greyhound buses and a Eurail pass.

In this second instalment of Bradt's potted history, Hilary reminisces on the early days of becoming a 'Real Publisher' – back when a book cost £1.50 and we were known as 'Bradt Enterprises'. After sketching a logo and creating the first-ever catalogue (albeit just an A4 sheet) she hit the road, trailing from bookshop to bookshop across Europe and the US with boxes of guides to sell.
